Stranger Things Season 5 Teaser Hints at Darker Threat Than Ever

Netflix released the new and extended Stranger Things Season 5 teaser trailer. Season 5 is the series’ final one, set to premiere on Netflix towards the end of this year. As you can expect from a Stranger Things season finale, the new trailer is full of exciting action and fantastic new characters.

The first teaser trailer that Netflix released back in June was more like a second trailer for the season, as it left the most important elements for last. We got to see the upscaled view of Hawkins overrun by the forces of the Upside Down. These forces came in the form of various creatures and demo-dogs that are always a delight to see. We also got to see big boys use flamethrowers and cry while running away from those dogs.

And then we saw Linda Hamilton with a machine gun ready to kick ass, and it’s hard to describe what a monumental moment that was. While it’s hard to tell due to the time skip, we can expect to see her join the Hawkins crew this season.

The climax of Season 4 is arguably the biggest one in the whole series. Vecna, who was the brain behind all the evil forces in Hawkins, ripped open the big gate to the Upside Down and unleashed all hell on Hawkins. This year’s Season 5, according to the new teaser, will take place in the fall of 1987. The reason is that the time of the year lines up with the third anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance, and that was the event that started the events of Season 1.

The premise and teaser trailer make it quite clear that the whole season will be nothing less than an action movie, and fans will get 8 episodes, to be exact, and each one of those episodes will be feature-length, so to put it that way, fans will be treated to 8 full Stranger Things movies this year.

We know the Hawkins will have to be at its hardest as Hawkins is forever changed with the Rifts fully opened. The only thing on every character’s mind, from new ones to the OGs, is to go and kill Vecna. But the location of Vecna is still a mystery, and his next move is the most concerning thing to fans. But a little extra tension on Hawkins from the government and Eleven in particular, as the U.S. government has imposed a military quarantine on the town and has ramped up efforts to find Eleven and force her to rejoin the government experiments. So Eleven is now in hiding again with the help of her found family.

In the teaser, we also learned that the time has come for Will’s disappearance anniversary, and the Upside Down is seeping into Hawkins even more. We also know in the teaser that the end game is here and the final battle is about to happen, and this time it’s even more nightmarish than the last time. Fans are finally going to see the whole party ready to fight together for the last time. But will they be able to survive and have a happy ending?

Main Cast, New Characters, and Sad Cliffhanger

The main cast of Stranger Things Season 5 is coming back for the final season of the series, including a number of their regular cameos. Amybeth McNulty will be returning to play Vicki, while Dustin’s girlfriend Suzie will be played by Gabriella Pizzolo. Jamie Campbell Bower returns to play the main villain from Season 4, Vecna.

Newcomers are also on their way this season, with Linda Hamilton playing the role of Dr. Kay. Other notable new characters are Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler, Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers.

The trailer is also full of new callbacks and references for long-time fans, most notably the scene where Lucas is on the floor trying to hide from demo-dogs, which is quickly reminiscent of the velociraptor scene in the kitchen from the classic Jurassic Park film. And if you’re a fan of that extra layer of horror, hearing Vecna whisper ‘found you’ is spine-chilling enough.

The part that got fans sad and angry at the same time is the shot where Eddie Munson’s gravestone is seen to be vandalized with the words ‘Burn in hell’. This is a reference to the end of Season 4, where Eddie sacrificed himself to close the Upside Down portal and save his friends, but according to this season 5 teaser, the town of Hawkins still views Eddie as a villain who died of his own doing. Eddie’s death, one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the series, right after Bob Newby’s death at the end of season 2, is a very fresh wound. It is only fair that the town realizes the truth, but in the end, Eddie is dead, and the family and the fans are still in pain.
