Paramount+ Unveils Action-Packed Strange New Worlds S3 Trailer
After what has felt like an eternity, Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ third season. The full trailer, which can be viewed in the video player above, officially confirms the upcoming season’s release on July 17, 2025, over three months away. The release date comes after fans got their first extended peek at Strange New Worlds Season 3 with just a quick teaser in April.
As Season 2 came to a close, the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise had just been subjected to a surprise attack by the Gorn. While the humanoid aliens were invading a Federation colony world, Enterprise and its crew were on the scene when the Gorn and colony world defenders got into a fight. During the battle, several crew members and other survivors were captured by the Gorn and taken hostage. With Starfleet on the other side ordering Enterprise to stand down, Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the other crew members had a decision to make: to follow orders or to attempt a rescue. As expected, Pike did not follow orders and instead put himself and the other surviving crew members in even more danger, and Season 3 will pick up the story from there.
Paramount+ first gave a small preview of Season 3 at New York City Comic-Con last October, and it began just after the end of the previous season. The preview saw the Enterprise crew launch into another massive space battle against the seemingly unstoppable Gorn threat. The full trailer is more of the same, but with a promise that the conflict will reach its end when the third season begins.
The official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 ups the ante on what has been shown before. When the new season begins, the Enterprise and Pike are still in hot water with Starfleet, although the crew will not be in the crosshairs for as long as the previous season, since the story of the Gorn’s Federation assault will come to a close. The season will also introduce a new enemy, and this villain will drive the crew to their limits, putting their loyalty, courage, and perseverance to the test.
Season 3 will also deviate from the formula the show has mostly stuck to so far, expanding upon the storytelling elements and mixing in traditional Trek with episodes that focus on themes of faith and duty, romance, comedy, and mystery. “You’ll see some genre shifts that you’ve never seen before in Star Trek,” said a Paramount+ representative in a press release. The cast for the upcoming season has not changed, as all the main and returning recurring cast members will be back for more. One notable member of the returning cast is Cillian O’Sullivan, who will be playing the role of Dr. Roger Korby, a character first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series and originally played by Michael Strong.
Dr. Roger Korby, within the established continuity of Strange New Worlds, is a renowned archaeologist with a specialty in medical archaeology. A significant point to note is that Korby was also Nurse Christine Chapel’s (Jess Bush) fiancé, as they got engaged before he was presumed missing on a previous mission. Korby will be an important character to the story in more ways than one since Chapel has become romantically involved with another crew member in Spock (Ethan Peck), which will cause some tension between the two.
Guest stars that have been confirmed for the upcoming season include comedians Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt. The April teaser trailer focused a lot on the story variety, and it promised a range of episodes for fans to get to with anything from Star Trek: The Original Series style pulse-pounding action-adventure to more silly side stories. The new trailer hammers home the more mixed tone of the upcoming episodes, and it shows the Enterprise crew bonding as a team in moments of levity, navigating sensitive romantic storylines, and even surviving a disastrous science experiment.
The one particular moment of the trailer that stands out the most involves James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) sitting in the captain’s chair. While Kirk is in the captain’s chair and running the Enterprise for the episode, his place in the events that will transpire in the upcoming season remains unclear. Kirk is, of course, a cadet at this point in the Trek timeline, and while his time in command may be brief, it is clear that his time behind the chair will change him. As Pike says to Kirk in the scene, “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.”
The preview ends on a high note, and it delivers a rare comedic moment with Spock and Oswalt’s Vulcan character. After Spock fails to complete a “high five” in real-time, the two exchange words, and Spock then begins his famous “too slow” prank, all perfectly choreographed and timed. After the Vulcan in question asks, “Why would you do that?” Spock replies, “Because you are too slow.” It is a classic Spock one-liner that gives this third season another high note to end on.
Premiere Date and Episode Release Schedule
Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount+ on July 17, 2025. The episodes will air weekly every Thursday until September 11, 2025, when the third season will conclude with a two-month season run. The series has already been renewed for Season 4, further proof of its positive reception from both Trekkies and the new generation of viewers.
